Culpa Mia Review!!
Rating:-6.3\10
My Fault is Amazon Prime's latest soapy Spanish film, and it's a complete mishmash of diverse themes - in the worst manner conceivable. There's a touch of the After series mixed in with the steamy sequences from 365 Days. There are also Fast and Furious series influences, as well as a hefty dose of Cruel Intentions 2. The sequel, not the first film.
My Fault (also known as Culpa Mia in Spanish) is a shambles, but it's a watchable shambles. This is frequently a vehicle crash, but like viewing a pile-up on the side of a highway, you feel awful for staring yet can't take your gaze away from the carnage.
This teen romance follows Noah, a brave 17-year-old who is forced to leave her hometown and move in with her mother's lover, Will. He has his own firm, a large villa, and a hunky son named Nick, whom Noah "hates" until she doesn't, as there's obvious sexual tension between the two.
What follows is a string of clichés tied together with toe-curlingly cringy speech. There are brief flashes of difficulty for the two to overcome, including Noah's prior trauma, an ex-boyfriend who reappears, and a half-assed effort at a love triangle featuring nice-guy Mario.
As the film enters its third act, it moves away from clichéd romanticism and clichés and into full-fledged action thriller territory. While the first sections of the film depict a few of street races, the film's astonishing rush into its last act is hilariously bungled. I won't give away the huge conclusion, but good luck not giggling at how the "villain" is handled towards the end.
That's right, on top of everything else Culpa Mia is juggling, there's a genius sending threatening messages to Noah. As a result, all of these conflicting concepts push away anything as substantial as character development or a competent tale.
Noah and Nick may have unresolved prior trauma, but they nonetheless play into typical stereotypes that we've seen in a variety of films in the past. To make matters worse, everyone else in this picture is so forgettable and uninteresting that you'll wonder why you're even watching.
But keep an eye on it because you most likely will! This is definitely a guilty pleasure, as you'll find yourself morbidly curious to find out what happens next in the plot. If you decide to watch it, be prepared to cringe and giggle your way through it.
